Mariam Orjonikidze Wägmark is Head of the Wider Black Sea Program at SSI, focusing on regional security dynamics, including Russia’s foreign policy, disinformation, and hybrid threats.
She previously served as First Secretary and Communications Officer at the Georgian Embassies in Sweden and the Czech Republic, leading strategic communications and public diplomacy, and coordinating high-level diplomatic engagements.
Prior to this, she was a Strategic Communications Attaché at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, where she worked on communication strategies and monitored Russian disinformation campaigns.
She holds an MSc in War Studies from the Swedish Defence University and degrees from Leiden University College. She is fluent in Georgian, English, Russian, Czech, and Swedish, and has advanced proficiency in Turkish.
